After SS Rajamouli, Rishab Shetty’s smash entertainer Kantara has been nominated for an Oscar in 2023. The divine drama, which received widespread acclaim, has now qualified for two Academy Award nominations. According to reports, the film has been nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
Rishab Shetty stated on Twitter on Tuesday that Kantara had received two Oscar nominations ahead of the nomination list presentation. They did not, however, specify the Oscar qualification categories. On Twitter, Rishab Shetty tweet “”We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the #Oscars #Kantara @hombalefilms #HombaleFilms.”
This indicates that the film is eligible for Oscar members to vote on in order to advance it to the main categories. The Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 24. The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12, 2023.
Kantara by Rishab Shetty demonstrated that when the substance is good, language is irrelevant. Kantara was initially supposed to be a Kannada-only release, and despite the language barrier, the film succeeded extremely well in all territories with the help of English subtitles. The film was afterwards distributed in all South Indian languages as well as Hindi.
Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara is set against the backdrop of the Keraadi area in coastal Karnataka. The actor-filmmaker also starred in the hit film, which was produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the legendary company Hombale Films.
Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, and others play crucial parts in the critically praised film. Kantara’s soundtrack was created by Ajaneesh Loknath. The director of photography is Arvind S Kashyap. The film’s worldwide gross earnings surpassed Rs 400 crore, making it only the second Kannada film to do so.
Other Indian Films for Oscars nominated
The Gujarati film Last Film Show (Chello Show) was announced as India’s official submission to the renowned award night in October 2022. The film has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category.
The RRR song Naatu Naatu by SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR has also been nominated for Best Original Song.
The makers of SS Rajamouli’s epic work submitted the ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for Academy award nominations to the uninitiated. The film was nominated for 14 awards, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Actor in a Lead Role (Ram Charan and Jr NTR), Best Actors in a Supporting Role (Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn), and others. Veteran composer SS Keeravani is also up for an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Score category.
Kantara, Rishab Shetty’s film, also filed Oscar nominations for 2023 in December. In an interview with India Today, Kantara producer Vijay Kirgandur confirmed the news and expressed hope for the best. “We have filed our Oscar entry for Kantara and are crossing our fingers as the final nominations are still to arrive,” the producer stated. He added that Kantara is such a deeply embedded narrative that we believe it might find a global voice as well.
